Top 5 places to visit with kids in East Sussex and Kent.
One of the top criteria for a parent when they go on holiday is to find a destination that offers lots to keep the kids happy during their break away. East Sussex and Kent offer a wide variety of activities, sight-seeing opportunities and fun-filled days out for the kids to enjoy – and hopefully the parents to an extent too! We’ve collated our Top 5 places to visit with kids in East Sussex and Kent as a guide for your holiday, to make the most out of your time away and experience a little of southern culture too!
Starting at number 5 is Hollywood Bowl in Ashford. Whilst we all hope for warm, sunny weather for our staycations, England’s day-to-day temperatures can be unpredictable. Hollywood Bowl is the perfect indoor trip out for your kids and is only a short drive from Camber and Rye. This ten pin bowling alley provides ramps for younger children and the option for the sides to be up or down, catering for a range of ages. Whilst an indoor day may not be your first choice, the variety of arcade games that accompany the bowling makes an exciting experience for kids – they may even get a score to go on the leader board too!
Our 4th top pick for a place to visit with your kids has to be the Rare Breeds Centre, it is the perfect place for kids to spend a day with animals, and a great day out for all the family. Start your day with a creativity pack available on their website to prepare them for their fun-packed day. Farm animals, birds of prey, play parks and woodland walks are all available to explore with your little ones. If you’re lucky, you may even get to see a pig race! Rabbits, goats, horses and chicks are all able to be petted during their ‘meet the animals’ sessions that run daily. There are also outdoor play parks, zip wires and Falconry displays to help your family make the most out of their day. Coming in at number 3 is Smugglers Adventures in Hastings. The Smugglers Adventure Experience allows families to experience a unique experience to uncover the secrets of smugglers. 70 life-sized smuggler characters enhance your journey through the underground caverns and caves and your kids can even become smugglers themselves! Interactive displays and activities encourage children to learn and enjoy their historic day out. You can download a smugglers quiz to bring with you too. The amount of interactivity that a day out at Smugglers Adventures offers kids is extensive, and is sure to provide a brilliant, fun-filled day out for all the family.
Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is yet another historical, interactive experience coming in at number 2. This Model Railway began construction in 1973, and took five years to complete. Dymchurch is the perfect place to take kids who are inquisitive and love the mini train rides back home! With
a wide range selection of scale model trains available to see, getting up close to the trains and interactive exhibits are sure to deliver a great family day out. 24 trains run up to 3.5 miles per day, and offers a great opportunity for kids to have a read on railway history, and maybe even pick up a gift from the shop!
Finally, our number one top place to take kids in East Sussex is Flamingo Park in Hastings. This is no ordinary amusement park, with a wide range of rides, activities and food areas sure to be an exciting experience for your kids. Situated on Hastings Seafront, rides such as the Caterpillar Roller Coaster boasts beautiful sights of the coastline, and all that Hastings has to offer. Alongside the space dodgems, pedal boats and the ghost train, the family amusements are a great way to spend an afternoon for the classic seaside experience. Go Karts and a Miniature Railway are also on offer for a jam-packed day out for your family. Flamingo Park has several food stores around to provide you with snacks and drinks throughout your day including burgers, chips, ice cream, donuts and more. However, if you would prefer, take a stroll onto the beach and enjoy a picnic – don’t forget to stop off at adventure golf on your way back to the car though! Alongside mini-golf, Hastings Seafront also offers a wide variety of independent shops and restaurants, the seafood is particularly something to boast about.
